The Fine Line
Swing ~ Standards ~ Instrumental
The Fine Line is the creation of Bay Area bassist Sam Bevan. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Sam moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1999, only to find himself touring with the David Grisman Quintet from 2000-2001 before actually settling into the local music scene. Once settled, Sam found himself recording and playing regularly with the Matt Flinner Quartet, mandolin and fiddle wizard Joe Craven and Monk's Music Trio.

In August of 2005, Sam formed The Fine Line, featuring not only the classics of the jazz repertoire, but also his own original compositions. His group?s sound strikes a balance between strong simple melodies, sophisticated jazz harmonies and polyrhythmic textures.

Prior to his move out west, Sam was a well known bassist, vocalist and pianist for a wide variety of bands, all while stumbling his way through college in pursuit of a lucrative French degree. During that time, he won Best Bassist from the Salt Lake City Weekly in 1997 and 1998, as well as Best Songwriter Award in 1998 with his band, The Sun Masons.
